MOTIVATING RENEWABLES
ABOUT US
Who We Are
We develop bio-refineries based on commercially established processes to make widely used renewable chemicals and polymers that enable our partners in the automotive, retail, and consumer goods sectors to offer superior sustainable solutions.
Our Philosophy
Formative is embarking on a journey focused on the development of sustainable communities built on successful agricultural and manufacturing initiatives. We develop solutions that enable communities to thrive while maintaining balance within the ecosystem, acting as custodians for future generations.
Our Work Environment
While Formative is leading the way to world-scale production of renewable chemicals, it strives to provide the best possible environment for its employees, managers, suppliers, investors. We view our community holistically. We leverage the expertise of engineers, scientists, and business people through a broad range of relationships.
We search first for people who share our goal of making renewables the new normal; where green chemicals are competitive with currently used commodity chemicals. Formative believes that intelligence, motivation, and the desire to succeed will drive our success. We have designed our organization to maximize opportunities for employees to apply their skills in the broadest way. We emphasize intelligent risk-taking, asking our people to weigh the choices and move forward with what they believe. Allowing our team this latitude has allowed us to move quickly to challenge the status quo of renewable chemistry.
Our Work
The growth in demand for renewable chemicals continues to outpace supply to meet the needs of industry and answer some of the issues of climate change. Formative is building a green chemicals roadmap, planning for the roll-out of multiple facilities producing a variety of chemicals from a range of renewable feedstocks.
To look at it simply, greenhouse gas (CO2) releases are a function of poor carbon utilization. Formative fine tunes its technologies to optimize carbon usage and minimize carbon emissions. Formative is designing facilities to convert greater than 90% of the feedstock carbon into desired products.

Hydroelectric Power
Reliable Power Supply And CO2 Emissions Mitigation. A three-stage hydroelectric project is currently under development in central Africa. All Conceptual work has been completed and required permits and licenses have been obtained.
Green Ammonia
Enabling Job Creation And CO2 Emissions Mitigation While Delivering Attractive Financial Returns. The Northern Cape (South Africa) is viewed as an “optimal” location for green hydrogen production. Utilize renewable power to produce hydrogen via electrolysis and then convert it to green ammonia (NH3).
Project Luhlaza
Two million tons of raw materials for 100% green chemicals. Formative Capital has taken its first project through pre-feasibility, and beyond FEL-2, progressing to where Formative has a Class 3 capital (+25% / -10%) estimate on hand. We are entering into the design and implementation phase and expect to be producing products about 36 months after construction commences.
Project Okusha
More than 7,700 jobs. We have begun the pre-feasibility study for our second project and have completed the conceptual engineering model as well as the order of magnitude capital estimate. Project Okhusha will produce a different slate of renewable chemicals, utilizing a different feedstock than Project Luhlaza.
